Dr Marcelo Bascope

Dr. Marcelo Bascopé brings over two decades of expertise in organic chemistry and natural product research to KRTL Biotech. A native of Cochabamba, Bolivia, he earned his PhD in Organic Chemistry and Natural Products from Lund University, Sweden, where he specialized in advanced organic synthesis, bioanalytical HPLC, and medicinal chemistry. His academic journey began with a Licentiate degree in Chemistry from the Universidad Mayor de San Simón, further solidifying his foundation in analytical and organic chemistry.

As the Director General of the Centro de Investigaciones Químicas (CIQ) since 2009, Dr. Bascopé has overseen groundbreaking research initiatives, including the extraction and identification of bioactive compounds from natural sources. His contributions extend to the publication of multiple peer-reviewed articles focusing on natural product chemistry, carotenoids, and lignans, reflecting his commitment to advancing scientific knowledge.

Dr. Bascopé's professional endeavors include collaborations with international and national institutions, leading efforts in modern instrumental analysis such as mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance. His work has been pivotal in fostering the development of innovative methodologies for quality control, environmental monitoring, and the pharmaceutical industry.
